I’m really excited to introduce a new feature on the blog- my vendor spotlight! This is my way of introducing you to some of my favorite vendors with whom I love working in the DC metropolitan area (some nationwide). This bi-monthly feature offers a glimpse into their personalities, inspiration, and work!
I’ve asked each participant the same 10 questions, I hope you enjoy this first installment!
Devon Baltimore, Updo Specialist
This week, I’m excited to share an interview with Devon Baltimore, Updo Specialist! Devon has over eight years of experience in the beauty industry, and with more than 350 weddings under her belt, she is highly experienced and amazing at what she does!
1. Describe yourself in three words:
Creative, professional, talented
2. Why did you choose to work in weddings/events?
I truly have been doing hair my whole life. My mom has a picture of me when I was 4 years old where I had styled my hair and underneath the photo it says “future hairstylist”. From then on I have had a love for making people look and feel beautiful.
3. What do you love most about your job?
I love “the big reveal” when my clients look at themselves in the mirror and say “WOW I never knew I could look this great!” It will always be the best feeling ever.
4. What inspires you?
I am inspired by everything! My creativity comes from looking outside the box. I pull inspiration from nature, pictures, animals, celebrities, etc. I am constantly imagining different hairstyles in my mind. No task is too big for me and I love a challenge.
5. Share one of the most memorable events you took part in and why it was so special.
I was asked to audition for Americas Got Talent in 2009. I made it to the final round of auditions and was flown to New York. Even though that really isn’t a competition for hairstylists, I loved performing my 30 second up do in front of thousands of people. I will never forget it.
6. Complete this sentence, “If I did not work in the wedding industry, I would…..”
I would be a platform stylist performing in front of large crowds or a personal stylist for someone that travels all over the world.
7. How would you describe your style/product?
My style is very versatile. I love to create the avant garde styles, but classic romantic styles are just as fun. My styles are one of kind, so I like to personalize my styles for each client.
8. What advice would you give to brides and grooms on choosing a hairstylist?
Make sure you choose a hairstylist that has versatility in their portfolio. This is a good indication that they can handle any style you are considering. Reviews are very important too since it’s a great inside view as to how others liked the stylists services. Make sure the majority of the reviews you read are fantastic.
9. What advice would you give to brides and grooms on the wedding planning process in general?
Weddings can be stressful, don’t bite off more than you can chew. Make sure you ask for help when needed. We as vendors are here to guide you to make your wedding memorable and as stress-free as possible.
10. Lastly for fun, if they made a movie of your life, which actor/actress would you want to play you?
I would have Charlize Theron play me. I think she is very creative and takes on difficult rolls, yet she still seems personable and dedicated to her work.
Devon, thanks so much for taking the time to chat!!
